Glass

Glass samples are available for $10 each -- we will refund upon return. Samples are 2"x3" in size.

All of the glass used in our outdoor lighting is hand selected and crafted by Mesolini Glass Studio and is produced by the finest American or European glass companies. The difference is visible!

Terms

• Fused glass is several layers of glass fused together by kiln firing to create a work of art. The resultant glass is also thicker and stronger.
• Hand Rolled is a manual production process that leaves a textured or striated surface for which the particular maker is known
• Iridescent is a visual rainbow sheen to the surface of the glass; unless otherwise stated the glass we use has a soft matte iridescence.
• Ripple is a highly textured surface, at times raised like the ripples in a pond’s surface.
• Mouth Blown - the technique of blowing glass sheet by mouth without using a machine.

Glass for Wood Sconces, Pier Mounts and Post Tops

A single thickness, most are hand rolled with a matte iridescent surface.

Glass for Signature Sconce - Wild Grasses Series

Fused glass with an irregular, free flowing signature edge, in either a Hand Rolled Ripple Iridescent, or simply Hand Rolled Iridescent.

Glass for Cowboy Lantern

Fused clear glass with a “green-glass” coloration, geometric gridlines and bubbles fused within the glass itself, a melted lower edge.

Glass for Bohemian Sconce

Fused glass with an irregular, free flowing Mesolini ‘Signature’ edge, in either a Hand Rolled Ripple Iridescent or Hand Rolled glass with a smooth matte iridescent surface.

Shoji Screening

We’ve searched and finally found a durable and beautiful acrylic Japanese Shoji to use in our sconces and lanterns. The patterns are from the top shoji makers—“Waterfall” is our favorite, and since it is acrylic, it will last and last. If you want a Craftsman look, order the Shoji with shellac; to achieve a deep amber tone, we hand apply many coats of natural shellac.

Box and Body Material

Brazilian Cherry wood (Jatoba)

All of our Wood Sconces, Pier Mounts, and Post Lights are created from sustainable Brazilian Cherry wood (also known as Jatoba). Warm and richly grained as only wood can be-- Brazilian Cherry is the wood of choice for exceptional beauty and outdoor durability. Finish: All the Brazilian Cherry wood is treated with teak-oil. You can easily reapply this finish as needed, or allow the wood to weather.

Roof materials & Finishes

Cast Bronze

The Bronze roofs (Hip) are cast of heavy weight silicon-bronze and are nearly ¼ inch thick: rugged, beautiful, and built to last. Finishes: Antique copper or patina green stabilized with an acrylic lacquer.

Steel

The Steel roof (Hip) is nearly indestructible at 3/16th inch thick.
Finish: A gorgeous coppery- rust patina stabilized with an acrylic lacquer.

Flat-stacked Steel

The Flat-stacked steel roof is nearly indestructible at 1/4 inch thick with a 1/2 inch topper. Finish: A gorgeous coppery- rust patina stabilized with an acrylic lacquer.

Flat-stacked Copper

Heavy 10 gauge copper for a beautiful and durable flat-stacked roof. Finishes: Antique copper or patina green stabilized with an acrylic lacquer.

Copper Sconces

All of the Pacific Series lights have copper details, accents, and lamp sconces. The copper is hand-hammered and ‘weighty’. Leave it to weather naturally, or order it with a patina finish. The patina finish gives the copper a soft green, verdigris color. We do not seal our copper sconces. They will age naturally and gracefully.

A note about metal finishes: Some of our metals are patinated and then either left as is or stabilized with an acrylic lacquer. All metal will continue to age gracefully, or you can reapply an acrylic lacquer as needed.
