Pacific Edge Jatoba Post Light
Because wood in the garden lasts and lasts. Made like fine furniture, this durable outdoor light is handsome enough
that you may be tempted to use it indoors. But the Pacific Edge is built to withstand the vagaries of climate
and to last outdoors through decades of bad weather. We’ve been using Jatoba
(Brazilian cherry wood) for years in
our outdoor deck, arbor, pergola, and light designs. So don’t let
wood scare you away. It has already stood
the hardest tests of time and the elements!
Its beauty will draw you in, and its durability will impress you
for a lifetime.
Unlike any other wooden outdoor light, this rugged Jatoba light has
perfect proportions and an amazingly natural yet sophisticated
appearance. The lines are uncomplicated, clean, and straightforward. By
day, its beauty enhances entryways, paths, stairs or garden locations.
By night, illumination from a hand-hammered copper sconce gives
effective, functional light. The warm glow of beautifully grained wood
makes this striking light the perfect choice for most landscapes.
Jatoba wood: Jatoba (Brazilian cherry wood) is the
wood of choice for these lights. We have tested many other traditional
and exotic woods, but none compares to the beauty
and endurance that Jatoba offers. These lights will last and last, no matter
what the weather! Yes, Jatoba has a 40-year outdoor ground-contact
rating, and yes, it weathers better than teak or cedar and is 1.5 times harder than
oak. And yes, it’s gorgeous! Each handmade light has a unique grain pattern
and a rich depth of natural coloring. Without further care, the wood will fade to a subtle
lighter hue. Or an occasional application of fine wood oil will maintain
the dark, polished appearance of elegant furniture and well-maintained bright-work.
The Pacific Edge is distinctive, and will be noticed day and night. Wood
belongs outdoors and in the garden, and using Jatoba finally makes this
possible.
Copper: Our lamp sconces are locally made
of hand-hammered, “weighty” copper, which can be left to weather
naturally or given a patina finish to look old sooner with a
soft-green, verdigris color. This light also has a copper cap, which will match your finish choice
for the sconce.
Sizes: Our carpenter builds these lights
to stand 36 inches high, 4.75 inches wide, and 3 inches deep at the top, tapering toward the
bottom. You may choose a “right” or “left” sconce mounting.
As you face
the light, the highest point would be the “R” or “L” designation,
and the lamp
would be on this face.
Illumination: 12 volt lamping using an 18-watt or lower wedge-based incandescent light. This design features a functional,
effective, warm-toned light that illuminates a 225 ° sector 12 feet or more
in diameter around the post.
Night-Sky-Friendly: All our lights
are night-sky-friendly. This means that the light shines
where you need it: toward the ground on paths, entries, and stairs,
but not into your eyes, or your neighbor’s, and not into the sky to
waste electricity and obscure the stars. All our lights use UL-approved electrical components, and
they all meet or exceed the code requirements that many cities have
adopted to limit outdoor light pollution.
Mounting: These come mounted on a steel bracket
and are ready to set in concrete. With a slight modification, they can
also be through-bolted
onto a wood surface such as a deck.
